Having trouble installing SQL Server 2005 SP2

The computer is a Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise 32-bit installed in a Windows
2003 R2 native AD domain/forest, and has WSUS/IIS6 running as well as SQL
Server 2005 standard. When trying to install it fails with the following
event log entry:

I understand that the SQL Server 2005 SP2 failed to be installed on your
Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition running SQL Server 2005 STD. The error
code is 0x80070643.
If I have misunderstood, please let me know.
The error code indicates that fatal error during the installation.
Unfortunately we could not get more information from this message.
Could you please mail me the installation logs ( C:\WINDOWS\Hotfix ) for
further research? My email address is changliw_at_microsoft_dot_com.
If the hotfix logs were not generated, I recommend that you use FileMon amd
RegMon to monitor the SP2 setup progress and mail me the logs for further
research.

My problem is almost the same as Edward's. I have tried more than 5 times
to install the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service pack and
every time I get the message: Updates were unable to be successfully
installed.
I have no error code: none comes up. I also have no hotfix file in the
Windows directory. What is filemon? How do I access it to give you more
info?
My computer has also been running slower since I installed Office 2007, but
I know that's another issue. It freezes if it has been on for awhile, and
programs are slow to open and close. I maintain my computer, I have all the
necessary virus, firewall, spyware, whatever -- so what could be the problem?
My computer is a Dell, about 8 months old, running with XP Media edition.

I am running WinXP Home edition, and I was trying to install SQL Server Express, but the error message is too vague for me fix. Have SQL report IP of query-er

I am trying to come up with a way to save the IP of the last computer that ran an update in our servers. I don't want to have to re-write the .net code, so I am wondering if there is a way, using functions available in SQL 2000 that I can get the IP of the machine running the update.

I know that SQL server 'knows' this information because it can log it in it's log files, but I don't know how to get at it from a stored procedure.

Using ms sql 2000
I have 2 tables.
I have a table which has information regarding a computer scan. Each
record in this table has a column called MAC which is the unique ID for
each Scan. The table in question holds the various scan results of
every scan from different computers. I have an insert statement that
works however I am having troulbe getting and update statement out of
it, not sure if I'm using the correct method to insert and thats why or
if I'm just missing something. Anyway the scan results is stored as an
XML document(@.iTree) so I have a temp table that holds the relevent
info from that. Here is my Insert statement for the temporary table.
INSERT INTO #temp
SELECT * FROM openxml(@.iTree,
'ComputerScan/scans/scan/scanattributes/scanattribute', 1)
WITH(
ID nvarchar(50) './@.ID',
ParentID nvarchar(50) './@.ParentID',

Now here is the insert statement for the table I am having trouble

that will do what my insert does accept I need it to be an update
statement. I need the update because an insert is only going to happen
once for each client.

Using ms sql 2000
I have 2 tables.
I have a table which has information regarding a computer scan. Each
record in this table has a column called MAC which is the unique ID for

each Scan. The table in question holds the various scan results of
every scan from different computers. I have an insert statement that
works however I am having troulbe getting and update statement out of

I have some difficulties to understand what your problem is. If all
you want to do is to insert from the XML document, then you don't
need the temp table, but you could use OPENXML directly in the
query.

But then you talk about an UPDATE as well, and if your aim is to insert
new rows, and update existing, it's probably better to use a temp
table (or a table variable), so that you don't have to run OPENXML twice.
Some DB engines support a MERGE command which performs the task of
UPDATE and INSERT in one statement, but this is not available in
SQL Server, not even in SQL 2005.

the resulst are stored in a database. So the first time a scan is
performed for any PC it will be an insert, but after that it will
always be an update. I tried using openxml in my insert statement but
kept getting an error stating my sub query is returning more than one
result... So since I couldn't do it that way I'm trying this method.
All the relevent openxml is there I just couldn't figure out how to
insert each column using it. If you have any suggestions I'm open to
give it a try.

Hangs on Applying Computer Settings

I have 2 nodes Cluster Active/Passive on Windows 2003. When I reboot either
one, it comes fast no problem but when I logon to the node it takes 15
minutes waiting on "Applying Computer Settings" message then it will show
the desktop.
I didn't install SQL 2000 yet, I need to solve this issue before I install
it.
Does any one have this issue that it takes so long to logon?

Sounds like a service start issue. Check your system event log to see if
any services are hanging on startup. BITS is one I typically have problems
with. Setting it to manual startup seems help.
