Harware requirements

How does one figure out what type of hardware is minimal and what type of
hardware is optimal for each server involved in replication?

I am unaware of any hardware requirement guide for replication. Replication
has a relatively light resource footprint, so you should select hardware for
your anticipated load without replication.
