Having problems importing Data from 2 tables into 1. Please help.

I am new to SQL and am having problems importing data from two tables to one.
I have 3 tables : Franchise, Club and Reference.
Franchise has FranchiseID as Primary key and FranchiseNumber as unique.
Club has ClubID as Primary key.
Reference has a combination of ClubID and FranchiseNumber as primary key.
I am not able to insert data into table Reference from Franchise and Club.
Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Having Problem With installation

I have already installed QSL 2005 on a win 2003 machine. The installation was without erroe or something but when I open services I do not see any sql in there and when I open the management interface there is no machine detected there. Would you please help me to run this software. When in the management tool I try to connect to the server this is the error I get:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)

You should find an entry for "Microsoft SQL Server 2005" select it and click "Change" Once the dialog comes up you should see a "Report" button, click it. This will show you all of the SQL Server 2005 features installed. Copy and Paste this back to this thread.|||

Your error "No SQL Server 2005 components were found on the specified computer" can be caused if you installed SQL Server 2005 using Disc 2 of 2. I actually did this myself accidentally. I didn't realize there were two "Premium Technologies" CD's (those shiny discs are hard to read)! So I had accidentally done the installation from disc 2. The setup process appeared legit, when in fact it only installed the client apps.

In short, make sure you're installing SQL 2005 from disc 1 of 2.

I am specifying some hardware for an application server. It will be running
two SQL applications - both applications will have about 20 users.
Throughput will be relatively low with regards to transactions. Both
software vendors would prefer their own server, but I'd rather keep both on
the same box. Both software vendors state specifically that they need a
seperate array for the transaction logs.
I'm thinking of the following:
Dual Xeon (dual core)
7GB RAM (1 GB for OS, 3GB for App1, 3 GB for App2)
RAID1(2 x 74GB15k SCSI) for OS, RAID5(3x146GB 15k SCSI) for App1 database,
RAID5(3x146GB 15k SCSI) for App2 database, RAID1(2x36GB15k SCSI) for App1
transaction logs, RAID1(2x36GB15k SCSI) for App2 transaction logs.
A couple of questions:
Could both transaction logs sit on the same RAID array without any real
decrease in performance?
Would I be better going RAID 10 for the database files as opposed to RAID 5?

From your proposal, it looks like you are blessed with adequate resources.
In fact, for two applications, each with about 20 users, you have proposed
an incredibly 'robust' server.
I'd keep the Logs on separate RAID1 arrays for the optimal performance. If
the db size and storage requirements allow, the databases might be faster
and more 'robust' on the same RAID10 array (instead of separate RAID5
arrays).

Just a question first - are you attemping to open a SqlServerCe database on your desktop PC or on a mobile device (like a Pocket PC / Smartphone)? This is important because we want to add the correct DLL to your project.

If you're opening the database on the desktop, then we can find the System.Data.SqlServerCe.DLL in the directory where DEVENV.EXE is. That would be something like C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE

If you're opening the database on a device, then we can find the System.Data.SqlServerCe.DLL in the Mobile SDK folder. That would be something like C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SmartDevices\SDK\SQL Server\Mobile\v3.0

If either of the DLLs are missing then it means your SQLServerCe SDK is not installed on your machine. The easiest way to fix this is to REPAIR the visual studio installation. This will re-install the SDK and ensure the DLLs are present on the machine.

Please let me know how it works out,

I'm sorry but the scenairo of opening a database on a device remotely from a desktop PC isnt supported by the SQLCE engine. Eventually, you'll get an error about the connection string being invalid. This is because the engine is targeting local data scenarios - that is where the Application and Database reside on the same machine, in the same process. This scenario starts to touch on client / server scenarios which currently arent supported.

Your current error about the missing dlls is telling us that the application is starting but cant find the engine. These dlls are found next to the System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll file. The ones in the Common7\IDE are for your PC. THe ones in SmartDevices\SDK are for the device. For a PC application, copy the ones from Common7\IDE into the executing directory of your application. But again, after you get pass this error, you will eventually get an error about the connection string being invalid because this scenario isnt supported.

Handling errors when using a Lookup Task

I am trying to use this painful new SSIS process. I basically need to use a lookup task to check to see whether a record exists or not. If not, then I need to insert the record. However, because this is treated as an error situation (which is stupid in itself), I get a problem when the number of records not found reach the MaximumErrorCount, and the rest of the package fails. Is there any other method of doing this type of thing, without simply increasing the MaximumErrorCounty to some ludicrous value. I could do this type of thing very very very easily when using DTS packages using the Data Driven Task, it seems so stupid that I can't perform the same kind of task using SSIS.

Any help would be appreciated

You need to configure the error output of the lookup component to redirect the rows that fail the lookup. you can then route the error flow to insert the records.

I have already configured the error output of the lookup task to redirect the error rows, however, the task stops after processing the errors of the lookup task because the number of errors exceeds the MaximumErrorCounty, even though I don't want it to stop processing. For the error output I am redirecting the rows to a Derived field task, so that I can add additional fields ready for the SQL task of inserting the information. However, it doesn't even get to execute the derived task because of this problem with the MaximumErrorCount

Any other ideas?

I've used this technique on many occasions and trust me - its not affected by MaximumErrorCount. I've diverted millions of rows down the error output of a LOOKUP component when MaximumErrorCount=1 and the data-flow succeeds.

Are you sure there isn't another error occurring somewhere?

Why is that stupid? The objective here is to achieve a business requirement - does the specifics of how it is achieved really matter?

I promise you this CAN be achieved. Persevere - you'll find the problem eventually

Perhaps check the ForceExecutionResult property.

Handling errors in DTS packages

HI!!

I've been working for an year or so with DTS, but it still makes me mad with it's cryptic error messages!!!!

"The task reported failure on execution" is one of the "funny" error messages I retrieve. I've tried with the log option, but error messages stored there are as cryptic as the one shown on the screen!!!!!

Timothy Peterson in "MS SQL Server 2000 DTS" provides code chunks that can be used to "decode" numerical error messages into something readable and understandable, but I really don't realize where should I put that code :( It seems to work only if you are executing packages via Visual Basic, and not using the MMC

That's it, I really do need help with this!!!!!!! I beleive that there's someone out there that had faced and solved this problem !

I don't understand... You define two columns in the file connection manager and just hook up the data flow columns to it.

In the examples you've given above, I don't see a need for the derived column transformation.

What are you seeing in your results?|||I agree, if you hook up an OLEDB Source to Flat file in your data flow task, this should already get handled automatically.

handling double quotes

i am importing data from table to flat file(csv). i have two problems
1. if a column has commas(,) it should not create a new column i.e the column in csv file can have commas
2.if a column has double quotes then csv file column should have double quotes. please help me.I am using derived column I dont know how to search double quotes in string.

if my table has 2 columns

col1 col2

a abc,"scfddf"ghisk

b bc,de

c de

my csv file should look like this

a abc,"scfddf" ghisk

b bc,de

c de
